BACKGROUND
Biocarbon Imperatives – Africa (BIA)
was founded in June 2009 as a Non-governmental Organization aimed at securing a sustainable and healthy environment for the future generations.  Biocarbon Imperatives – Africa is spearheading sustainable environmental activities advocated by Professor Richard Samson Odingo after the Gambrinus Giuseppe Mazzotti Award announced in May, 2009 and awarded in November, 2009.  The award which acknowledges individual person’s contribution towards environmental conservation, was accompanied by an additional award by Bioforest to support a reforestation project in Kenya.

VISION
Biocarbon Imperatives – Africa has a vision of creating a sustainable, healthy and secure future for all, working with Bioforest and others to achieve its aims.

MISSION
The mission of Biocarbon Imperatives – Africa is to advocate and participate in activities directed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions through reforestation and working for improved human welfare and sustainable environment, and working towards the achievements of the “Green Economy”.

CORE VALUES
In order to realize the vision and mission, the Biocarbon Imperatives – Africa nurtures the following values:

    • Sustainable development
    • Working with communities for the restoration of degraded forest land and working to consolidate sustainable forest resources
    • Climate change mitigation through the promotion of afforestation and reforestation
    • Improved livelihoods
    • Restoration of the ecological balance of the degraded catchment areas
    • Anthropogenic waste management
